This particular article doesn’t have anything to do with skirts specifically, but is certainly relevant when discussing gendered clothes. J.Crew introduced a pink men’s sweater which seems to have kicked up quite a debate with plenty of toxic masculinity.
It must be miserable to be so insecure in your masculinity that you feel threatened by a pink sweater.
J.Crew’s Pink Men’s Sweater Stirs Up Online Debate
The sweater is raising discussion about gender stereotypes.
For our German speakers, I also happened to stumble upon an article about it in German: https://www.derstandard.de/story/3000000297887/rosa-nicht-fuer-maenner-wie-ein-pullover-fuer-eine-online-debatte-sorgt
How would you rate this post?
Maybe this is just an issue with conservatives in the US. Here in the UK, I have worn pink shorts without an issue and I have seen other men wearing pink t shirts and hoodies.
The whole pink and blue issue was a marketing plot started in the 50s influenced by Mimie Eisenhower, Marilyn Monroe and others.
Clothing manufacturing picked up on it to sell more clothes.
Bottom line, you like it, you wear it and screw everyone else.
I wear pink weekly. Got challenges to wear all pink so I did. Pink pants, pink shirt, pink tie and pink socks (that are actually tights) and you know what happened??
Some may guess ‘nothing’ but they’d be wrong.
No, I was complimented a lot. Not one bad word. Complimented more by women than men but by both. And there’s something funny that happens when young women compliment middle age men around other middle age men. Everyone loves it when a 20something female gives you a compliment. Everyone except the boring old guys standing there in brown pants and a white shirt.
In the German article, one comment from reader P2K really stood out and is very relevant for this forum.
If I can paraphrase and slightly reinterpret for this forum….
If you filled 13 olympic swimming pools with Cornflakes, each flake would represent one entire Galaxy… We are as meaningless in the universe as any discussion about fashion choices.
