This is an interesting article that discusses men wearing “women’s” clothing such as skirts and heels to work as well as addressing heteronormativity. Mark Bryan is cited as an example of how well that can work despite it being somewhat abnormal.
Skirting: the issue: Do queered clothes still make the man?
Be confident in what you wear – inverting norms widens horizons. But, asks Briony Lipton, why should men fear to tread a path worn by women?

Although not very mainstream yet, men wearing skirts and heels is becoming a tiny bit more common. Is it accepted by society, I would say the big answer is no, but it is tolerated. I personally own my own business, an automotive and heavy truck and heavy equipment repair shop. I also wear nothing but skirts and heels everyday, unless I am in a tight space welding on something that would cause a safety issue. When I first went “public” did I loose business because I was different, yes. Did I stay in business, again yes. How is my business doing, freaking fantastic, I have never been busier. Moral of my comment, be you, dress how you want, be professional at work and let others opinions no say your decision. People may shy away at first, but most will return. In my case business wise, I continued to provide a great service at a reasonable price and people want that more than me wearing pants.
